My son is just under two years old so he is not yet conscious of our Christian faith. But in a few years, he will surely have lots of questions as he struggles to navigate the world around him and becomes more self-aware.
God's Promises for Boys by Jack Countryman and Amy Parker is a book of verses adapted from the bestselling International Children's Bible® to offer comfort and encouragement when a boy is feeling afraid, lonely, worried, angry, dissatisfied, discouraged, sad, rebellious, impatient or sick. It also aims to reassure preschool and elementary-aged boys of God's protection, love, forgiveness and help, and reminds them that He listens when they pray.
Each situation is given a colorful 2-page spread with glossy pages, adorable illustrations, a short poem and no less than 3 scriptures that apply to the scenario. For example:
God's Promises When You Feel Lonely
"So don't worry, because I am with you.
Don't be afraid, because I am your God.
I will make you strong and will help you.
I will support you with my right hand that saves you."
~ Isaiah 41:10
I love that I can share biblical principles with my toddler in a fun, engaging way. As he grows older, he can learn how to manage his emotions and maintain hope and optimism by using this simple reference, which is much less intimidating than a full children's bible. The compact, hardcover size makes it the perfect travel or backpack companion.
This book would make a wonderful gift for a baptism/first communion/confirmation - or just because. I can't think of a better way for little ones to keep God close to their heart.
