Review: Boon Grass Drying Rack
Thank you to Boon, Inc. for participating in the Goodie Goodie Gumdrops Earth Week Event!
It seems like just yesterday I was setting up my baby registry, dreaming about my son's nursery and all the coolest new toys that I would surround him with. I remember stumbling upon the Boon Odd Duck while searching for safe bath toys and from there, I was hooked.
Boon all began with a messy toddler bathtub. (Who hasn't been there?) Designer Rebecca Finell's wheels started turning and their hallmark Frog Pod was born. But it didn't stop there. Her ideas for other parenting innovations started flowing and together with business partner, Ryan Fernandez, she founded Boon, Inc. Today, Boon offers a wide range of products, from highchairs and feeding supplies to toys and storage solutions. They are committed to producing the safest, highest-quality, most innovative gear for children. And best of all, 10% of their profits go to children's charities such as Helping Orphans Worldwide (HOW) and the Child Crisis Center.
Just check out their Fluid Sippy Cup and Potty Bench (which also doubles as a step stool to wash hands!):
In a world of Sesame Street and Nickelodeon characters, Boon's simple, contemporary designs are a sight for sore eyes. So, I was understandably ecstatic to have the opportunity to review their new Grass drying rack.
The Grass countertop drying rack is sleek, stylish and can be used with a wide variety of baby accessories, from bottles to pacifiers. Items rest on flexible "grass blades" to air dry and excess water drains into the bottom tray. Its two-piece design makes for easy cleaning - both grass and tray are dishwasher-safe. Boon Grass is also BPA-free, phthalate-free, and PVC-free!
I already had a cheap plastic drying rack that had been passed down to me from a friend. It did what it needed to do but it was certainly nothing special. The Boon Grass captivated me straight out of the package. I loved the whole earthy vibe and low-profile design. It looked right at home in our modern kitchen.
I found the "blades" to be a bit stiffer than I had imagined but I liked how they held our sippy cups in a completely vertical position to allow for the most drainage. Because of the unique design, you could easily accommodate items of odd shapes and sizes (like breastpump parts, bottle vents, sippy spouts, etc.). I didn't have to worry about things falling over or placing paper towels underneath to catch the water runoff. Everything was completely contained. Not to mention, it just looks pretty darn cool. Who would've thought I'd be using that word in regards to a drying rack?!
I've been handwashing my Boon Grass every few days to prevent mold from growing in the bottom tray but I love that you can just throw both pieces in the dishwasher if you're short on time. You just know this was made by a mom!
The only thing I would change about this product is the size. At 10" x 10", it is compact and gets cramped pretty quickly with just several sippy cups and lids. Just another two inches and it would be perfect. Then again, as is, it motivates me to put everything away quickly in order to make room. So maybe it isn't a bad thing!
Some may balk at the $19.99 price tag but personally, I think it is worth the investment. This is something I will have on my countertop for years (assuming we will have more children eventually) and if I have to look at it everyday, I prefer something that looks good.
BUY IT: You can purchase the Grass drying rack directly from the Boon website or at Target, where it is available online and in select stores for only $14.99!
