Review: Mrs. Meyers Clean Day

I'm not a natural-born housewife. My husband and I share cooking duties and even though it is my responsibility to tend to the child and manage domestic upkeep, my toddler tornado often tears the house apart the moment I sit down to relax. I could have cleaned for hours and before nightfall, it looks as if I've done absolutely nothing. It is a neverending, thankless job that can easily become overwhelming. So, when I find a product that makes cleaning exciting, I know it's truly something special.

And that's how I feel about Mrs. Meyers Clean Day.

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day is actually a tribute to the founder's mother, Thelma, to honor her old-fashioned values. Their philosophy is to make "straightforward, honest cleaners that smell good and work like the dickens on dirt". They believe cleaning should be easy, as long as you have the right soap. All Mrs. Meyers products are aromatherapeutic, inspired by garden flowers and herbs. You'll find everything from household cleaners to laundry detergent to baby care items.

Mrs. Meyers products are kind to the environment, as well as biodegradable. They use naturally-derived ingredients whenever possible including corn, sugar cane, coconut and palm. If a plant-derived ingredient cannot perform up to snuff, they will use a safe synthetic with a long track record for efficacy that will not compromise the health of people or the planet. All Mrs. Meyers products are fragranced with both natural and non-natural oils but contain no solvents, petroleum distillates, bleach, phosphates or ingredients that could cause harsh fumes, making them safe for children and pets. A cruelty-free company, Mrs. Meyers does not and never will test its products on animals. Most of the products have a nearly neutral pH and are safe for skin contact. So, you can say sayonara to those awkward rubber gloves!

I had never heard of this brand until I was offered the opportunity to review their Lemon Verbena All-Purpose Cleaner as a product tester on behalf of Kiwi Magazine. The minimalist design was very appealing to the eye and I couldn't wait to mix it up and give it a go.

This is, by far, the best all-purpose spray I have ever laid nostrils on. I wish I had a scratch-n-sniff patch on this post so you could smell for yourself. Everytime I get a whiff of the Lemon Verbena scent, I get weak in the knees. And no, I'm not exaggerating. The blend of lemon, lemongrass, peppermint, clover, geranium and fir needle is invigorating. This is the way every kitchen should smell. At least in my mind! I find myself cleaning up the most inconspicuous bits of grime just so I can indulge myself with this lovely, lasting fragrance. I don't think my kitchen has ever been this clean in my life! If you are particularly sensitive to smell, I could see where the aroma could be a bit much. However, I don't personally find it overpowering. I love that my kitchen smells (and looks!) fresh and clean for hours after using it.

Oh, and lest we forget, it's got gusto too! While I've only used this product in my kitchen, it effortlessly tackles messes and spills of all kinds from baked-on cheese dip to days-old coffee stains. Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner! I'm considering purchasing the Lemon Verbena Dish Soap so I can have the ultimate kitchen cleaning experience.

Bottom line: Mrs. Meyers Clean Day is like a playground for my senses. It smells of perfection and works like a charm. For me, it's a miracle product in that it actually instills the desire to clean. Now, that speaks volumes. I also think most of the products are reasonably priced when compared to fellow "green" cleaners.

BUY IT: You can find Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Lemon Verbena All-Purpose Cleaner (ARV $3.99 for the spray bottle or $7.99 for the 32 oz. refill) and a variety of other products and scents at select grocers, mass retailers and health food stores, as well as www.mrsmeyers.com. If you want to smell for yourself before you buy, use their handy dandy store locator to find the location closest to you!

DELECTABLE DEAL: Through March 6, Mrs. Meyers is offering a $10 gift certificate with each purchase of $50 or more. No code needed - it will be added during checkout.

Disclaimer: I received the above cleaner at no charge from Kiwi Magazine in exhange for my candid review. I was in no other way compensated for this post. The thoughts and opinions expressed in my review are solely mine. Your experience may differ.
