Mabel's Labels BlogHer '10 Contest

You may recall my review for the fabulous Mabel's Labels many months ago. Well, they are hosting an amazing contest for an all-expenses paid trip to NYC for BlogHer '10 as well as a one-year, paid blogging gig! All you have to do is post your answer to the following hypothetical situation: Electrical storms are going to wipe out the Internet (perhaps forever). You have one day left to write about your passions: what do you want to say to the blogosphere in 300 words or less?

I know my odds of winning are slim to none with such great talent out there in the blogosphere but I couldn't let this opportunity pass me by without at least trying. So without further ado, I present my entry:

The Internet has been both my best friend and my worst enemy. Without it, I would spend less time sorting through my endless barrage of emails and more time with my hands deep in homemade play dough. Without it, my house would be so spotless it would make Martha jealous. Without it, my behind would be wasting away at the gym rather than going numb in my office chair. Without it, I could take my extra $50/month and treat myself to some much-needed pampering.

But without it, I may have never met my soul mate – the man I married after meeting him by chance in a Yahoo! chat room. Without it, I never would have found the support groups and communities that carried me through my struggle with infertility. I never would have found solace from the confusion and spiritual doubt I suffered as a result of recurrent miscarriage. I never would have exposed my deepest, sincerest thoughts in a blog, and had someone comfort me with four little words: “You are not alone”. I never would have witnessed the greatest acts of altruism and compassion, as complete strangers rally around someone in their darkest hour of despair and grief.

The Internet has taught me about the human connection. Friendships – relationships - can transcend time and space. At the worst of times, it has been a borderline obsession - a distraction from reality. At the best of times, it has been my bridge to salvation.

Seeing as though these may be my final words to the blogosphere, I urge you to hang on tight to those closest to you and enjoy every moment before the time dissipates. Don't be afraid to reach out and share your story. And remember that love has no boundaries.

Disclaimer: I was notified of this contest due to my membership in the Product Review Place. I was not compensated in any way, shape or form for this post. However, if I should win, I will receive the grand prize mentioned above including an all-expenses paid trip to BlogHer '10 in NYC and a yearlong paid blogging job with Mabel's Labels. Wish me luck!
