Review: The Organic Pharmacy's Lip and Eye Cream

As I previously explained, one of my New Year's resolutions is to put more of an effort into my looks. This includes health and fitness but also my beauty routine. After all, my largest organ is my skin and sadly, I often disregard it. I have only recently started to actually clean my face daily, after I discovered the love that is the Carrot Butter Cleanser from the award-winning Organic Pharmacy natural skincare line (read that review here!). So, you could imagine how ecstatic I was to be invited to review their Lip and Eye Cream.

In case you don't remember, here are just a handful of reasons why The Organic Pharmacy is so fantastically unique:
  • Certified organic
  • All products are handmade in small batches to ensure quality
  • Each ingredient and formula is personally checked before packaging
  • No artificial preservatives
  • No artificial colourants
  • No artificial fragrances
  • No petrochemicals
  • No harsh detergents
  • No DEA, TEA
  • No toxic ingredients
  • No animal testing
What's not to love, right? Not only will it help me achieve my resolution to look and feel better, but it will also help me as I attempt to go green! Awesome!

Their Lip and Eye Cream is a nourishing dual-action cream that uses eye-brightening bilberry and fennel to reduce darkness and puffiness, as well as frankincense, neroli and carrot to tone the skin around the lips. Formulated for all skin types, the Lip and Eye Cream restores elasticity to these wrinkle-prone areas and is gentle enough to be used under makeup all day long, everyday.

As the Carrot Butter Cleanser is recommended for nighttime application, use of the Lip and Eye Cream is suggested at the start of your day. After washing your face, simply pat a smidge of the cream around the eyes and lips. You can also use this once a week as a mask for an intensive facial treatment. The consistency of the cream is rich but it goes on lightly and is easily blendable. It almost tingles on the skin, like a minty toothpaste feels on your teeth. You do want to be concious of how much product you use though. I found a little goes a long way. A pencil-tip amount proved just right for me. Anything more and it was too greasy and difficult for my skin to absorb.

I have been using the Lip and Eye Cream daily for about two weeks and I can see a noticeable change around my eyes. I have very fair skin so any undereye circles or discolorations really pop. Any mom of a toddler knows those bags and dark circles from sleepless nights can age you significantly. I think I actually look my age now! No one would ever guess that my son woke up at 5am the day I took this photo:

I don't have many wrinkles yet around my lips (that I notice!) so I can't really attest to its effectiveness in that area. But the cream is super moisturizing and really hydrates the skin. After it settles, my skin feels soft yet firm so I am confident it could camouflage wrinkles just as well as the undereye baggage.

There are just a few minor drawbacks to the Lip and Eye Cream. First, the smell of the ingredients is rather strong. It could be that I am using it directly under my nostrils so I'm extra sensitive but I think I would prefer a more subtle scent. Secondly, the winter weather has really done a number on my lips so one day, I thought I would use some like a chapstick to repair the cracks. It was fine until I happened to lick my lips. Bad idea. I got a taste and it numbed my tongue for a minute or two. Not good. I decided from then on to use it only around my lips and leave the Softlips to do what they do best. Lastly, ringing in at $70+, it is not exactly budget-friendly for my one-income family. The best I could hope for is that someone would splurge for this treat around the holidays or for my birthday. *ahem, hubby are you listening?*

Bottom line: I would definitely recommend the Lip and Eye Cream from The Organic Pharmacy as a way to combat those dreaded undereye circles. It is made from completely natural, organic ingredients so it's good for your skin and the environment. Best of all, it works like a charm! I just wish it was as friendly to my pocketbook.

BUY IT: You can purchase the Lip and Eye Cream directly from the Organic Pharmacy website (ARV $72.14/35 ml).

Disclaimer: I was sent a 35 ml jar of The Organic Pharmacy's Lip and Eye Cream from Megan at Light Years Ahead to facilitate my review. I was not compensated in any other way for this post.
